The Thane police have booked multi-system operators (MSOs) GTPL Hathway and Scod18 Network along with three local cable operators (LCOs) for alleged violation of the contract and illegal transmission of signals of broadcaster Star India’s channels.
Apart from GTPL Hathway and Scod18, the offense was registered against three LCOs namely Riya Cable Network, Sairaj Cable Network and 3 Dimension Network.
According to a UN report, the police has booked the five under section 420 read with 34 of Indian Penal Code and also sections 51 and 63 of the Copyright Act of 1957 following a complaint filed by the detection agency of Star India.
The Thane city police further informed that the Vartak Nagar police under Wagle Estate division was probing the crime.
The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) had recently barred GTPL Hathway from providing signals of Star India channels to Scod18 Networking or to the LCOs affiliated to Scod18.
According to Star India’s complaint, the LCOs were transmitting signals from GTPL despite the TDSAT order.
